The Heading of your resume includes your name, address, and contact information. Make sure your email address is appropriate!

 

Your Education section should include BHS and any community college classes you have taken. Remember to spell out abbreviation (Corriente alterna is Academic Choice, AHA is Arts and Humanities, and so on). Be sure to include a little about you accomplished while in high school.

 

Your Experience includes ANYTHING you have done outside of school. Include all paid work, volunteer positions, and any responsibilities you have at home or community.

 

La Skill & Interests section is where you can mention special aspects about you and what you enjoy doing in your spare time. Make sure to distinguish between conversational fluency (you can get by speaking) in another language vs. literacy (you can read and write in the other language).

  • Paid Internship for Seniors New Door offers for 17-24 year olds. Berkley high school students and graduates have come to our program and the past and we are planning to expand our services more in Oakland since we currently operate out of the Mission in SF. I’ve attached some flyers that you can print and provide as a resource in your career center but I would be happy to further connect with you over the phone or come to Berkeley High sometime if you would like to meet in person or have me share this info with more of your staff. Here’s a summary of our programs:New Door hires and employs youth ages 17-24 year-round to participate in our part time, paid internship program! We also prepare youth to pass the GED or HISET test for high school equivalently in our education program. Currently, we are based in the Mission in SF but we have plans to expand our services more in the East Bay with a potential site in Oakland in 2018. I’ve attached flyers that you can print out and here is some info about what opportunities we have:JOB OPPORTUNTIES: New Door interns work at either Ashbury Images, our silk screening business; Pedal Revolution, our full service bicycle shop; or one of our local business partners. We have 75+ community partners, local businesses that agree to employ youth from our program. New Door’s current roster of partners represent a diverse array of industries, such as food service and hospitality; office and administrative support for legal and financial services; childcare and after-school programs creative arts and media; and hands-on labor.EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES:New Door offers high school equivalency classes on site and the intake process is the same as the first steps of our internship program outlined above (with the exception of them need work documents). After their interview, they will follow up directly with one of our GED teachers to set up their class schedule. Students in our GED/HSE program are also PAID by a stipend. ​

CIEE Study Abroad opportunities

The priority application deadline is December 1st (this is when we award the majority of our scholarships and when students have the best chance of getting their first choice destination, as the application allows students to select two alternate programs, y students who apply by November 1st will be automatically entered in a drawing to win a free flight).

We offer three types of programs:

1. Language and Culture Programs (4 semana, 60 hours of instruction, pre- & post-proficiency testing so students can participate in any program/language/destination of choice (1 year of language study required for all French and Spanish programs; 2 years of language study required for “Intensive” programs), most programs are with host families and students have the option to receive four college credits for their language and culture program – read more about it aquí

2. Service and Leadership Programs (3 semana, 45 hours of international community service with certificate, workshops in intercultural communication and leadership skills, and approx. 10 hours of basic language instruction in local languag

3. Global Discovery Programs (3 semana, approx. 40 hours of subject field work with certificate, approx. 10 hours basic language instruction in local language)

Scholarships are available from 10% (merit only) a 100% (merit + necesidad). You can also view an online presentation on the application instructions aquí. The scholarship application is within the general online application, and the short essay questions regard reasons/fit for wanting to participate, challenges experienced and expected in the program and strengths you would contribute to the program (culturally, linguistically, socially, leadership skills, communication skills, global perspective, etc.). CAREER EXPLORATION

  1. Tradeswomen, Inc. is holding WOMEN Can Build Career Fair on October 21st, 2016 9:00 al – 2:00 pm, 23217 Kidder Street., Hayward, California. The Career Fair is a hands-on event so women can experience the type of work the different trades perform such as sheet metal workers, carpenters, operating engineers, etc. Each table to staffed by apprenticeship coordinators and women currently in the construction trades.   3. Perry Outreach Program on Sábado, Octubre 8, 2016 at the University of California San Francisco in San Francisco, California. The Perry Outreach Program is a free, one-day, hands-on experience for high school and college-aged women who are interested in pursuing careers in medicine and engineering. Students will hear from women leaders in these fields and try it for themselves by performing mock orthopaedic surgeries and biomechanics experiments.We are now seeking applicants for our San Francisco, CA program. Participants should be women in grades 10 and up with an expressed interest in science, medicine and/or engineering.
