Announcements

SAT Cancelled: 8/29

Due to local health orders, the SAT at Berkeley High School on August 29th will be cancelled. All students registered for this exam will receive notifications from the College Board via email, including information about their full refund. Students can call the College Board to sign up for later test dates; we still have open spaces for the December SAT.

What will happen with other SAT and ACT exams this Fall? We will continue to work with local health officials to determine on a case-by-case basis whether conditions will allow us to host upcoming exams. We will keep you informed if we need to cancel other exams in the future.

Do I need the SAT or ACT for my college applications? Most colleges and universities have decided to make the SAT and ACT optional for students applying to attend school in '21-'22. Please check here for regular updates on colleges that are test-optional; if a college is not on the list, students should search online to see the most current admissions information.

What should I do if I still want to take the SAT? At this point, students can still call College Board to sign up for future SAT dates that still have availability; we encourage you to do so quickly, as College Board does not allow us to limit sign-ups to Berkeley High students. If BHS is full, we suggest you sign-up to test at other locations. You can also look here for SAT COVID-19 updates from College Board.

  • E-TREE: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

BHS Etree: E-TREE: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ): PLEASE do not reply to this email, contact BHS E-tree Moderators at bhs-owner at lmi.net.
BHS E-TREE Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Now that the school year is almost underway, it’s time for our annual FAQ. Your BHS E-tree volunteer moderators warmly welcome (back) both our new and long-time subscribers!
The E-tree is a valuable source of information for notices about school events and activities. It is funded by the Berkeley High Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) and is operated by four parent volunteer moderators.
RESPONDING: If you have a question about an E-tree posting, please do not hit reply but direct your message to the contact person who is listed at the top of the posting. Because our role is to post the announcements we receive, we won’t have answers to the questions you have about a particular announcement.
SUBSCRIBING, UNSUBSCRIBING, AND OTHER FEATURES: To subscribe to the E-tree, or unsubscribe from it, send an email to bhs-request at lmi.net with the word ‘subscribe’ or ‘unsubscribe’ in the subject line. The system will send a confirmation email; the subscription or un-subscription will not be complete until you follow the link in that email and confirm that you want to subscribe or unsubscribe. It is possible that the confirmation message went into your spam or junk folder.
If you need help, please feel free to contact the moderators at bhs-owner at lmi.net for assistance.
Please note also that unsubscribe requests must be sent from the email address you used to subscribe originally; your request will not “take” if you are having your messages forwarded to another email address and you try to unsubscribe from that email address.
If you no longer have access to your original email address, please use the web URL instead, as described in the next paragraph:
There is a web page for managing the way you receive your messages, unsubscribing, and certain other features. If you receive each message individually, the URL for you is included at the very bottom of each message. If you receive the digest version, or don't have a recent email from the list, you may access this options page using the following URL: http://lists.lmi.net/mailman/options/bhs/<emailaddress> <http://lists.lmi.net/mailman/options/bhs/%3cemailaddress>; just replace "<emailaddress>" with the email address that is subscribed to the list. This is also useful if you receive list emails via forwarding but are not able to send email from the subscribed address. For example, if your email address is jacketfan at gmail.com, you would use http://lists.lmi.net/mailman/options/bhs/jacketfan@gmail.com <http://lists.lmi.net/mailman/options/bhs/jacketfan@gmail.com>.
If you are unable to access this page, can’t make the change you want, can’t subscribe or unsubscribe successfully, or are having other problems with the list, please email us at bhs-owner at lmi.net, and we will help you.
FORWARDING: Please be careful when you forward an E-tree message -- oftentimes, our subscribers use REPLY instead of FORWARD, and we must write back to say that the message has not reached its intended recipient. (Note: sometimes we also receive personal messages that subscribers did not intend to share.)
POSTING ANNOUNCEMENTS: The E-tree is moderated, so when you send your announcements for posting to bhs at lmi.net we will check for accuracy and appropriateness. The E-tree is used for administrative notifications and announcing BHS- and BUSD-sponsored activities. It is not an advertising forum.
You can email the moderators at bhs-owner at lmi.net to ask us questions prior to posting notices, but you don’t need to do so if you simply want to submit an announcement for posting.
You may also have received emails from one of our personal email addresses or our gmail address (bhs-owner at gmail.com) but please DO NOT submit announcements to any of these addresses – they will not make it into our queue of pending posts and can easily get lost.
Please read these additional important guidelines on postings:-- Use a descriptive subject line for your message in the subject line of your email (you don’t need to say “please post”). It should clearly state what the message is about. The line may be edited by the moderators for brevity, and we will add a "tag" (SPORTS, CLUBS, etc.). -- Please check your message for accuracy and details (dates, names, links, spelling, room numbers, etc.) before sending. FREQUENCY OF POSTINGS: CLUBS: Information targeted to students may be posted once per club per school year; information meant for parents may be posted once per meeting.
MEETINGS: Meetings targeting parents and/or parents and their students may be posted up to two times maximum with at least seven calendar days between postings.
EVENTS: BHS-Specific events like concerts, plays and school-wide celebrations may be posted up to two times maximum with at least seven calendar days between postings.
FUNDRAISING: Okay to post if directly providing funds to a BHS program. We will post a fundraising item ONCE when it is from a group that doesn't have its own E-tree or team email list. Even if the group does have its own list, we will post ONCE if it benefits the entire school (e.g. BAF, Jacket, BHSDG, etc.). We reserve the right to post some fundraisers more than once (2-3 times maximum) - like Mrs. Dalloway’s benefit for BHSDG. We will not include logos for outside businesses.
EXCEPTIONS: We don’t usually monitor how many times an event gets announced when it is embedded in other items we regularly post like COLLEGE/CAREER announcements, SPORTS announcements, STUDENT ACTIVITIES announcements, STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN announcements or VOLUNTEER announcements.
When the BHS E-tree is closed (Thanksgiving, Winter, Spring, and Summer breaks) we will only post urgent or time sensitive messages if we are able to do so.
Note: The BHS E-tree Moderators reserve the right to modify these policies when circumstances warrant.
TIMELINESS OF ANNOUNCEMENTS-- We will post the Student Daily Bulletin as we receive it from the BHS Main Office (not daily), but there will be an inevitable delay in sending it out because we often do not receive it until later in the day.
MANAGING THE HIGH VOLUME OF MESSAGES: On a normal school day the E-tree can send up to four or five postings. At the beginning and end of the year it can be double that. We have several suggestions for managing the high volume of email:
a. Delete. The content of each posting is clearly stated in the subject line. If the item is not of interest to you, delete.
b. Set up a separate folder for E-tree messages. Opening the folder on a daily basis, you can quickly scan the postings and decide which ones you want to open and read.
c. Finally, a digest version is available. The digest collects all E-tree postings and sends them out in batches, either daily or twice a day. This sounds better than it is. The digest messages are strung together in one long posting. To read the day's information it is necessary to scroll down through everything. Attachments are not included in the digest. Often, the messages are a day late. However, if you are still intrigued by the digest and you did not check the digest option when you subscribed to the E-tree, you may change to digest mode using the ‘options’ page, as discussed at the beginning of this post under “SUBSCRIBING, UNSUBSCRIBING, AND OTHER FEATURES.”
ARCHIVES: All E-tree postings are archived. There are two ways to search the BHS E-tree Archives:
To access the archives by date, go to http://lists.lmi.net/pipermail/bhs/ <http://lists.lmi.net/pipermail/bhs/>.
In addition, you can search the contents of the archive from the "[Search the E-tree Archives <https://www.google.com/cse/publicurl?cx=013835952307974573801:bhqkbvocdwi>]" link at the bottom of the BHS website homepage http://bhs.berkeleyschools.net <http://bhs.berkeleyschools.net/>.
OTHER E-TREES: We believe that everyone at Berkeley High should subscribe to the BHS E-tree. In addition to the BHS E-tree, most of the small learning communities operate supplementary E-trees featuring information of specific interest to their constituents.
Below are websites where you can find more information (we have no control over how often these websites are updated): Academic Choice (AC): http://ac.berkeleyschools.net/ <http://ac.berkeleyschools.net/> Academy of Medicine and Public Service (AMPS): http://bhs.berkeleyschools.net/communities/academy-of-medicine-and-public-serivce/ <http://bhs.berkeleyschools.net/communities/academy-of-medicine-and-public-serivce/> Arts and Humanities Academy (AHA): http://aha.berkeleyschools.net/ <http://aha.berkeleyschools.net/> Berkeley International High School (BIHS): http://bihs.berkeleyschools.net/ <http://bihs.berkeleyschools.net/> Communication Arts and Sciences (CAS): http://cas.bhs.berkeleypta.org <http://cas.bhs.berkeleypta.org/> Berkeley High School (BHS): http://bhs.berkeleyschools.net/ <http://bhs.berkeleyschools.net/> For information on the BHS Parent Teacher Student Association: http://bhs.berkeleypta.org/ <http://bhs.berkeleypta.org/> WHO ARE WE? Finally, we would like to introduce ourselves. The BHS E-tree is a parent-run operation. Volunteering for the E-tree can be incredibly rewarding but also demanding. We do our best and appreciate your patience.
Jenny Fosket, in her 4th year as an E-tree moderator, is the parent of a senior and a sophmore in CAS.
Nicole Chee, in her 3rd year as an E-tree moderator, is the parent of a senior in AMPS and a 9th grader.
Chaghig Walker, in her 2nd year as an E-tree moderator, is the parent of a senior and a sophomore in CAS, and a 7th grader at Willard.
Charlotte Le Liboux is excited to join the BHS E-tree team this year. She has a 9th grader at BHS and a 7th grader at Willard.
All of us welcome your feedback and questions about the E-tree, as well as your support as we strive to keep communications flowing within the BHS community. We wish you a wonderful year at Berkeley High!
